December 10th, 2020, Professor Miyaoka Maoko of the Department of Culture in Fukuoka University’s Faculty of Humanities paid a visit to the College of Hakka Studies. College Dean Huang Shaw-Herng and Associate Dean Chien Mei-Ling hosted her, and Wei Te-Wen, Publisher of SMC Publishing, Inc., accompanied them.
Prof. Miyaoka had become acquainted with Prof. Uematsu Akashi when Miyaoka was only a graduate student. The two maintained their friendship for many years, until Prof. Uematsu passed away. Prof. Miyaoka is presently a Visiting Scholar at Academia Sinica’s Institute of Ethnology. The purpose of this trip was to visit the Uematsu Collection, which the College is working so hard to prepare.
Lü Ching, who was a research assistant at the time and is an alumnus, guided Prof. Miyaoka through the permanent poster exhibition, and to the cultural object preservation site. After the guided tour, Prof. Miyaoka, Dean Huang, and Associate Dean Chien engaged in broad and deep discussion on the future of Taiwanese-Japanese cooperation. Both sides said they are strongly looking forward to the initiation of work on the research plan. (Text/Lü Ching)
